Patricia Coates is responsible for providing leadership to the Institute and the University of Vermont Office of Engagement, overseeing their strategic development, budget, staff, and resources. Prior to joining the Institute, Coates served in leadership roles with Vermont’s Congressional delegation, including Sen. Patrick Leahy, as state director for then-Congressman Peter Welch, and most recently as a director for the Welch Senate transition. Coates is a former high school history teacher and department chair. She earned a bachelor’s in history from St. Michael’s College and an M.A.T. from Union College. Coates lives in Jericho with her family.
