Nader Engheta

Nader Engheta is the H. Nedwill Ramsey Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he leads pioneering research in electrical engineering, physics and materials science. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran and a master’s degree and doctorate in electrical engineering and physics from the California Institute of Technology. A leader in metamaterials, nano-optics and photonics, Engheta’s work has advanced understanding of light-matter interaction at the nanoscale.

His honors include the Benjamin Franklin Medal, the Isaac Newton Medal and Prize, the Max Born Award, the IEEE Electromagnetics Award and the SPIE Gold Medal. He is a fellow of nine major scientific societies, including IEEE, the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Engheta served on the Board of Reviewing Editors for Science from 2018 to 2024 and continues to serve on several journal editorial boards. He holds honorary doctorates from Aalto University, the University of Stuttgart and Kharkov Polytechnic Institute and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
