About Yanfeng Ouyang

Yanfeng Ouyang is George Krambles Endowed Professor in Rail and Public Transit, Paul Kent Endowed Faculty Scholar, and Donald Willett Faculty Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). His research interest focuses primarily on transportation systems analysis, operations, and planning, and he has made theoretical and methodological contributions to improving safety, efficiency and resiliency of complex transportation systems. He formerly served, or currently serves, as a Department/Area/Associate/Board Editor of IISE Transactions (on Logistics and Supply Chains), Networks and Spatial Economics, Transportation Science, Transportation Research Part B, Transportation Research Part C, and Transportmetrica B. Dr. Ouyang has developed a diverse research portfolio that includes more than 70 projects sponsored by various federal and state agencies and the private sector. Dr. Ouyang authored one textbook on public transit systems, more than 130 peer-reviewed journal publications, about 100 papers in conference proceedings, and delivered more than 450 presentations at various international conferences and peer institutions. His work has been recognized by a Merit Award for Technical Study from the American Planning Association, a Walter L. Huber Research Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers, a High Impact Project Award from the Illinois Department of Transportation, a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the U.S. National Science Foundation, among others. He is an active member of the transportation research community, taking on a number of leadership roles in professional societies such as the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is committee chair of TRB’s Network Modeling Committee. Dr. Ouyang holds a B.Eng. in civil engineering (summa cum laude, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 2000), M.S. in civil engineering (University of Washington, 2001), M.S. in industrial engineering and operations research (University of California at Berkeley, 2005), and Ph.D. in civil engineering (University of California at Berkeley, 2005).
