Brian Gaucher

Prior to his retirement in 2024, Brian Gaucher was a principal research scientist, manager, and sub-theme technical lead of IBM’s quantum computing future systems design. His work focused on novel architectures for quantum electronics for scientific and commercial applications. Previously, Gaucher was senior manager and principal RSM of IBM’s Cognitive Environments Lab, focused on applying AI in highly interactive physical spaces to improve decision-making through always-on ambient intelligence, enhancing human cognition. He led the development and implementation of IBM’s control electronics for quantum systems. Gaucher subsequently managed two Quantum Gates teams and co-led the principal RSM and readout development. He was named an IBM master inventor, with over 80 U.S. and foreign patents pending, filed, or issued. Gaucher has received two IBM corporate awards, three outstanding technical achievement awards, an outstanding innovation award, and a research division award, and has authored or co-authored over 50 papers and one book.
