Katrina Knight

About Katrina Knight

Katrina Knight is currently an assistant professor in the bioengineering department at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) where her laboratory research focuses on improving women’s pelvic health through the development of novel devices. Knight completed her bachelor’s in biochemistry at Claflin University and received her doctorate in bioengineering from Pitt. She also completed her postdoc fellowships in urogynecology at Magee-Women’s Research Institute and in clinical and translational science within Pitt’s Institute for Clinical Research Education. She was awarded a BIRCWH K12 fellowship and was recently recognized as a Technical.ly RealLIST Engineer. Knight is a translational bioengineer with extensive training in mechanical testing of soft tissues and synthetic materials and in device design and evaluation. She also rigorously trained in the assessment of the host response to devices and in animal research and surgery. Knight is the director of CampBioE 2.0 a dynamic summer camp that provides a unique and enriching experience aimed to increase student interest and awareness in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEM+.). In addition to her research goals she aims to increase the number of minorities pursuing an education and/or career in STEM+.
