About Rainer Kolb

In his current role at ExxonMobil’s New Market Development group, Rainer focuses his attention to recycling plastic waste back into raw materials. He is passionate about keeping plastic waste out of the environment and instead making use of it as a resource for new plastics and other valuable products.

He received his diploma in Chemistry and his doctorate degree at the University of Hamburg and after a stay at the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a visiting scientist, he also works jointly with ExxonMobil’s Corporate Research Department. He has spent most of his career developing new polymer products from conception to commercialization. Today, he uses this experience for breaking down the polymer molecules of plastic waste into building blocks for new materials.
