“I'm excited to be a member of the ERVA Standing Council. ERVA has an opportunity to transform engineering research and learning on its head, ensuring that we develop future generations of engineers."
Nancy G. Love is the Borchardt and Glysson Collegiate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University Michigan. Prior to her time at Michigan, she was on the faculty at Virginia Tech. She has advised more than 70 graduate students and post-doctoral research associates. In collaboration with her students and post-docs, Love works at the interface of water, infrastructure, and public health in both domestic and global settings. The Love group’s core work is centered on identifying and translating fundamental understanding into practical solutions for water utilities and communities. The scientific emphasis of this work is to advance public and environmental health using chemical, biological, and computational approaches applied to water systems, and prioritize community-centered co-design methods in all field work. Love has co-authored 129 peer reviewed papers, chapters, and reports; about 300 editorials, discussions, and conference presentations; and a textbook on biological wastewater treatment.
Love has held leadership positions at Virginia Tech as a co-PI of the University’s NSF ADVANCE initiative for advancing women in academic leadership, and at the University of Michigan as the chair of civil and environmental engineering and associate dean in the Rackham Graduate School. She has also held multiple leadership positions in professional organizations, including with the Water Environment Federation, the International Water Association, and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors, which she served as president. She is a fellow of all three organizations. Love is the recipient of multiple awards, including The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists Science Award and Kappe Lecture; the AEESP Distinguished Lecturer and the AEESP/WEF Master Lecture; the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award; and the Water Research Foundation’s Paul L. Busch Award for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research. Love is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Michigan and is a board-certified environmental engineer.
